As he talks, I think about all the rickshaws I've ridden in and how I never really thought about the men who pulled them.

That's a nice snippet--and one which hits a chord for me. There are no rickshaws in my city, but there are a lot of taxis, and it's very rare for a driver and a passenger to recognise each other if they ever meet a second time. But that happened to me once, the day when I resigned from a job I hated. The driver told me that he had driven me home from that area before, and when I told him why he probably never would again, he said sadly, "It must be nice to be the sort of person who can leave a job you don't like, any time you feel like it." Since that evening, I have tried to be as kind and understanding as possible to taxi drivers. They have thankless jobs and probably lead hard lives.
